The Book of Revelation Unveiled - The White Horse

Revelation, or Apocalypse means "to take the cover off." It is UNCOVERING the future from the time of its writing. This book is full of symbols, but it interprets its own symbols within the book. The Book of Revelation gives further understanding to the Old Testament Book of Daniel. This Book of Revelation also brings greater understanding to Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21.

The author of the Book of Revelation is the same person who wrote the Gospel Book of John and the three epistles of John. It was received as a vision and written while John was exiled to the Isle of Patmos between 90-96 AD.

Revelation of Jesus Christ

The very opening verse of Chapter 1 claims this book is revealed to John by Jesus Christ. Who was Jesus Christ that John should take down a message from Him given in vision?

Genesis 1:1: "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth." The Hebrew word translated into the English as God is a uniplural word. It could be singular or plural according to the use in the sentence. Verse 26 makes it clear. There were at least two individuals that are called God. Notice the plural pronouns: "Let us..," "our image," and "after our likeness..."

When this God family brought ancient Israel out of the land of Egypt after 400 years of slavery, notice the wording of the 1st Commandment given from mount Sinai. "And God [uniplural - one of the two God's] spake all these words, saying, I [singular] am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have NO other gods before me."

Of the two God's of Genesis Chapter 1, verse 1, we see that One individual God had the task of delivering Israel from captivity. Who was this God? The answer is found in the New Testament. "In the beginning [just like Genesis 1] was the Word, and the Word was WITH God [the Father], and the Word WAS God. The SAME was IN THE BEGINNING WITH GOD [the Father]. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made" (John 1:1-3). Who was this that created everything? Verse 14 says "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us..." This God called the Word emptied Himself of Godhood and became a human being to die for the sins of this world.

It was this same God in the Old Testament that became Jesus Christ. Notice what Jesus did anciently.

"Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea [at the exodus from Egypt]; And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; And did all eat the same spiritual meat; And did all drink the same spiritual drink; for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ" (1 Corinthians 10:1-4).

The One revealing the Book of Revelation to His servants, Jesus Christ, was the Person of the God family Who created EVERYTHING that we see. HE WAS AND IS GOD! A description of Jesus in His resurrected from the dead glorified spirit composed body is found in Revelation 1:13-16 and Matthew 17:1-9. It said "his face did shine AS THE SUN, and his raiment was white as the light" (Matthew 17:2). "...his eyes were as a flame of fire...and his countenance [appearance] was as the SUN SHINETH IN HIS STRENGTH" (Revelation 1:14, 16).

Purpose - To Show His Servants

The very first verse of Revelation Chapter 1 states WHO is to understand its contents. "...to show unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass;..." Many have misunderstood the phrase "shortly come to pass" as meaning in John's day. The Greek phrase translated into English "shortly come to pass" means that when a specific time in history has been reached, then the events of the Book of Revelation will jump off its pages and will be understood by Jesus' servants.

John said (v.2) that he bore record "of the testimony of Jesus Christ." Jesus' interpretation of "the testimony of Jesus Christ" is found in Revelation 19:10b - for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. Therefore, the Book of Revelation was to forecast the future. BUT WHAT FUTURE? WHAT TIME PERIOD? Can we know?

Time Setting for the Book of Revelation!

Jesus has already acknowledged that He was "the beginning [Creator in the beginning] and the ending [told the END from ancient times]" (Rev. 1:8). John said "I was in the spirit ON the Lord's day,.." (Rev. 1:10). Since this book is a prophecy for the future, the correct preposition projecting John forward in TIME must be supplied. Any one of four prepositions could be used for the phrase "ON the Lord's day." However, the ONLY preposition that describes
